LESSONS LEARNED at the 2026 Super Pet Expo
In early January 2026, Healthy Harness participated in the Super Pet Expo in Edison New Jersey. It was an amazing event ! We had the good fortune to talk with hundreds of dog parents and interact with dogs of all breeds, sizes and dispositions. Over the course of the three day event, we sold harnesses and leashes to dogs ranging from 5 lbs to 150 lbs. More importantly, we learned a lot about dog families and what is important to them. We’d like to share the things that we learned from the expo with our Healthy Harness Dog Community.
Lesson #1 … Pet families and their dogs are vastly unique, so they have differing needs when it comes to pet gear.
Some families are focused on correcting their dogs pulling behavior by transitioning from a collar to a dog harness. Others already have a harness and are looking for a Premium Dog Harness that has a No Choke, No Pull, No Escape design. Our experience was that 100% of families are concerned about their dogs health and are looking for gear that promotes wellness and prevents injury. Other families are looking to upgrade their harness to enhance their pooch’s comfort and style. We enjoyed talking with all the families about the unique features offered by the Healthy Harness product line.
Lesson #2 … In addition to premium design, comfort and safety, today’s dog parents also want fashion options for their dogs.
At this year’s Super Pet Expo, Healthy Harness debuted our Limited Edition color options which included Bright Pink, USA Flag, Digital Camo, RealTree Camo and Swamp Camo. These color options were a smashing success. Healthy Harness clients had a great time trying on the new colors and seeing if they matched their dog’s personality. One family bought four different colors for their four fur babies. Healthy Harness is fully committed to offering product options that maximize healthy, safety and performance. Lesson #3 … Healthy Harness customers appreciate the unique features built into our innovative harnesses and accessories. Several customers shared stories about how their canine has broken the cheap plastic buckles on their last harness. They also commented that those plastic buckles get hard as the harness ages and it becomes difficult to squeeze the clips to don and doff the dog harness. At Healthy Harness, we only use high grade, metal buckle systems. Other customers shared the benefits of having an Emergency Handle to help them avoid dangerous situations. Probably the most popular feature with customers is the padded design. Healthy Harnesses include ample padding inside the harness to protect canines from rubbing and chaffing. The padding also acts as a shock absorber and pressure diffuser when stresses are exerted against the dog’s sensitive areas. Lastly, customers raved about the Frog Clip design on our leashes. They marveled at the secure connection, ease of use and stylish appearance.
Lesson #4 … Dogs pulling against their leash is a common problem and dog parents want solutions. Many dogs struggle with “opposition reflex”. Opposition reflex, sometimes referred to as the thigmotactic reflex, is a natural reaction in dogs where they push or pull against any applied force. It is an evolutionary survival mechanism that helps animals resist being controlled or restrained. These reflex manifests when a dog instinctively pulls against a leash, braces when being held, or resists pressure applied to its body. Healthy Harness designers recognize this problem and encourage dog parents to utilize the chest attachment point (available on all dog harness models) in order to train dogs to avoid pulling in a easy, safe and humane manner.

Lesson #6 … Healthy Harness = Happy Dogs = Happy Owners. The folks at Super Pet Expo shared amazing stories about how their dogs have positively impacted their lives. Some talked about their daily exercise routines, others talked about nature walks and car rides and others were more concerned about the joys of navigating the local dog park. Regardless of the activity type, it became apparent to our team that pup parents are focused on ensuring positive relationships with their furry friends. It was clear to us that all pet parents want happy, healthy dogs.
